Etiology
- carotid artery dissection
- infarction in the distribution of the superior frontal branch of the middle cerebral artery
- hemorrhage
- brain tumor
Pathology
- cortical & subcortical lesion of the prefrontal lobe & frontal lobe
Clinical manifestations
- nonfluent aphasia
- agrammatic sentences
- poor articulation
- dysprosody
- mutism may be present
- associated manifestations
- contralateral hemiparesis
- minor or no sensory loss
- no visual field disturbance
- oral dyspraxia
- cortical dysarthria
- severe impairment in writing
- auditory comprehension: relatively normal
- repetition: abnormal
- naming: abnormal
- reading comprehension: normal or abnormal
