Introduction

Muscular weakness or partial paralysis of one side of the body.

Etiology

• stroke
• traumatic brain injury

Physical examination

• pronator drift: hemiparetic side will drift downward & pronate
• finger tapping test: finger tapping is slower in a hemiparetic hand
• forearm rolling test: a hemiparetic arm will remain stationary while the other arm rapidly circles it

Management

• abobotulinumtoxinA may be of benefit for spastic lower limb after stroke of traumatic brain injury
