retinal hemorrhage (RHe)

Etiology

• cranial whiplash
• blunt eye trauma
  • no evidence that soccer ball heading causes retinal hemorrhage
• retinopathy
  • diabetic retinopathy

Clinical manifestations

• pain & swelling of affected eye
• diminished visual acuity (case report visual acuity 20/400)

Diagnostic procedures

• ophthalmoscopy*
• intraocular pressure may be normal
• absent foveal reflex

Management

• pars plana vitrectomy with internal tamponade (case report)
