Etiology
- risk of anticoagulants is low (~ 14 per 10,000 patients)[1]
- risk may be slightly lower with the direct anticoagulants than with warfarin (RR=0.75)
- clopidogrel & prasugrel seem not to increase risk[1]
Laboratory
- complete blood count (CBC), rule out thrombocytopenia
- prothrombin time (PT) & INR
- aPTT
