Introduction
Edema around the orbit of the eye.
Etiology
- hypertensive kidney disease[3]
- orbital cellulitis vs orbital abscess
- thyroid disorders
- dermatomyositis
- sinusitis
- helminth infection
- relapsing polychondritis
- neoplasm
- proteinuria (also peripheral edema)
- pharmaceutical agents
Clinical manifestations
- proptosis, ophthalmoplegia & pain with extraocular muscle present in ~50% of children with orbital abscess[2]
Radiology
- computed tomography of the orbit
