Introduction

A pivot type of synovial joint.

• allows the radius to rotate within the anular ligament of radius without binding, stretching or tearing the synovial capsule.

Articulation

• with the radial notch of the ulna & the anular ligament.

Muscles

• supinator
• pronator quadratus
• flexor carpi radialis
• palmaris longus
• brachioradialis

Innervation

Musculocutaneous & radial nerves

• responsible for supination

Median nerve

• responsible for pronation

Arterial supply

• anterior interosseous arteries
• posterior interosseous arteries
