histone acetylation
Jump to navigation
Jump to search
Function
- involved in transcription activation through opening of chromatin by masking positive charge of histone Lys via acetyl groups from Lys & exposing positive charge
- histone acetylation is facilitated by CPA4
- histone deacetylases catalyze histone deacetylation
Pathology
- histone H4 acetylation is deficient in aged mice; this results in:
- altered hippocampal chromatin plasticity
- failure to initiate a hippocampal gene expression program associated with memory consolidation[1]
