Indications

• palliative treatment of prostatic cancer

Contraindications

• active thrombophlebitis
• hypersensitivity to estramustine, estradiol or nitrogen mustard

Dosage

Take on an empty stomach

Avoid taking with milk

Capsule: 140 mg

Adverse effects

• common (> 10%)
  • diarrhea, nausea, decreased libido, breast tenderness, breast enlargement, edema, dyspnea, mild increases in liver function tests
• less common (1-10%)
  • leg cramps, anorexia, flatulence, leukopenia, lethargy, thrombophlebitis, myocardial infarction, pulmonary embolism, insomnia
• uncommon (< 1%)
  • night sweats, pigment changes, hypercalcemia, tinnitus, hot flashes, depression, cardiac arrest

• drug adverse effects of estrogens
