Epidemiology
- new onset dementia in 5 anticoagulated persons with non-valvular atrial fibrillation per 100-person-years[1]
- 1.2 per 100 person-years for vascular dementia
- 3.3 per 100 person-years for Alzheimer dementia
- warfarin & direct anticoagulants with similar risk
- consistent in both vascular dementia & Alzheimer dementia
- only edoxaban associated with lower risk of dementia than warfarin (RR=0.83)[1]
