Indications
- zinc supplement for zinc deficiency
- may promote wound healing in patients with pressure ulcers
- acrodermatitis enteropathica[2]
Dosage
- RDA: 15 mg elemental Zn+2/day
- zinc deficiency: 110-220 mg (25-50 mg elemental Zn+2) TID
Pharmacokinetics
- poor (20-30%) absorption from GI tract
- elimination mostly in feces
Adverse effects
Drug interactions
- tetracycline: decreased effect of tetracycline
- iron, bran products, dairy products: reduced absorption of Zn+2
Mechanism of action
- cofactor for more than 70 enzymes
