Epidemiology

• isolated from the midgut of Anopheles gambiae mosquitoes
• nosocomial outbreak has been reported in an intensive care unit in Singapore
• outbreak in Wisconsin 2015-2016
  • 48 people confirmed infected in 12 counties with at least 18 deaths
• case report in Michigan March 2016

Pathology

• reported to cause neonatal meningitis
