Introduction
Acquired in the hospital.
Etiology
The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services identifies the following hospital-acquired conditions:
- foreign object retained after surgery
- air embolism
- blood incompatibility
- Stage 3 & 4 pressure ulcers
- falls and trauma
- manifestations of poor glycemic control
- catheter-related urinary tract infection
- vascular catheter-related infection
- surgical site infection
- deep vein thrombosis (DVT)/pulmonary embolism (PE)
