Drug interactions
- NSAIDs can reduce the effectiveness of antihypertensive agents
- NSAIDS increase arterial smooth-muscle tone via prostaglandin inhibition & produce a dose-related effect on natriuresis, resulting in fluid retention
- greatest effect with indomethacin, piroxicam, & naproxen
- intermediate effect with ibuprofen, rofecoxib, & celecoxib
- aspirin does not significantly increase blood pressure
