Introduction
normal process of teeth breaking through the gums
Clinical manifestations
- normally infants start teething when they are 6 months old
- drooling
- chewing on solid objects
- crying
- irritability
- insomnia
- loss of appetite
- gum tenderness
- gum erythema & edema
Management
- gently rubbing or massaging the gums with one finger
- teething rings made of firm rubber are helpful
- do not use topical benzocaine[7]
Notes
- homeopathic teething tablets & gels may pose a risk to cause seizures in infants & children[5]
- certain homeopathic teething products found to contain belladonna[6]
