Adverse effects
- nasal steroids often associated with nosebleeds
- avoid spraying the nasal septum (site of most bleeds)
- spray right nostril with left hand spray left nostril with right hand
Notes
- volume of intranasal medication administered by an atomizer is 14 times greater when used in the supine versus upright position[2]
- to avoid accidental overdose when squeeze-bottle atomizers are used for delivery of intranasal medications, patient should be in upright or at an angle of >= 45 degrees & bottles should not be > 1/2 full[2]
