Function
- oxidoreductase
- play a role in mediating a p53/TP53-dependent, caspase- independent apoptosis
- probable oxidoreductase
- binds to DNA (sequence-independent)
- may contribute to genotoxin-induced growth arrest
- FAD
- binds 6-hydroxy-FAD non-covalently
Structure
- belongs to the FAD-dependent oxidoreductase family
Compartment
cytoplasm. mitochondrion outer membrane
Alternative splicing
- named isoforms=2
- detected in most normal tissues as two transcripts of 1.8 & 4.0 kb
Expression
- highly expressed in heart
- moderately expressed in liver & skeletal muscles
- not expressed at low levels in placenta, lung, kidney, & pancreas
- both transcripts expressed following p53/TP53 induction
- detected at 4 hours after induction by p53/TP53
Pathology
- down-regulated in a wide range of human tumors
- the shorter 1.8 kb transcript seems to be the major transcript in EB1 colon cancer cells
