Indications

• lymphadenopathy, fevers, night sweats, weight loss
• mastocytoma
• mast cell sarcoma
• histiocytic neoplasm
  • malignant histiocytosis
• diagnosis of lymphoma
• diagnosis of metastatic cancer
• staging of cancer
  • staging of breast cancer
  • staging of lymphoma

Procedure

• excisional lymph node biopsy
  • resection of entire lymph node is needed with architecture preserved
• fine-needle aspiration not sufficient for diagnosis of lymphoma* ,

* needle aspiration sufficient for diagnosis of lung cancer according to ref

* surgical biopsy preferable to core biopsy
