Indications

• to facilitate drainage of intestinal contents
• to insert a tube for feeding

Procedure

• opening of the small intestine through the abdominal wall to the exterior surface of the abdomen creating a stoma

Complications

• pyoderma gangrenosum at enterostomy site in patients with inflammatory bowel disease (ulcerative colitis or Crohn's disease)
