dyphylline (Dilor, Lufyllin, Neothylline)

Indications

• acute bronchial asthma
• reversible bronchospasm associated with chronic bronchitis &/or emphysema

Dosage

• adults: 15 mg/kg every 6 hours

Tablets: 200 mg, 400mg

Storage

store at controlled room temperature 20-25C (68-77F)

Adverse effects

• infrequent, relatively mild, rarely require reduction in dose or stopping medication
• GI: nausea, vomiting, epigastric pain, hematemesis, diarrhea
• CNS: headache, irritability, restlessness, insomnia, hyperexcitability, agitation, muscle twitching, grand mal seizure
• Cardiovascular: palpitations, tachycardia, extrasystoles, flushing, hypotension, circulatory failure, ventricular arrhythmias
• Respiratory: tachypnea
• Renal: albuminuria, gross and microscopic hematuria, diuresis
• Other: hyperglycemia, SIADH
