Indications
- salicylate toxicity
- hyperuricemia, tumor lysis syndrome
- cystinuria
- facilitates urinary excretion of acidic pharmaceuticals & toxins
Procedure
- administration of intravenous sodium bicarbonate to produce urine with a pH >= 7.5
Management
- increased intake of fruits & vegetables
- decreased protein intake
- NaHCO3 or potassium citrate
