Introduction

Inability to completely close the eyes

Etiology

• facial nerve palsy (CN7)
• ichthyosis
• upper blepharoplasty

Pathology

• impairment of blinking
• impaired function of tears

Clinical manifestations

• severe dry eyes
• eye pain/discomfort
• visual impairment
• unsatisfactory appearance

Complications

• corneal ulceration
• eye infection

Management

• artificial tears
• consult ophthalmologist
