Pathology

• inflammation & fibrosis of the small intestine

Radiology

• computed tomography (CT) of abdomen
  • calcification in the mesentery is present in sclerosing mesenteritis but usually not other disorders

Differential diagnosis

• lymphoma, carcinoid, desmoid tumors

Management

• observation in mild cases
• tamoxifen (Soltamox) indefinitely plus prednisone tapered over 3 months
• surgery for intestinal obstruction
  • follow surgery with tamoxifen & prednisone
