Etiology
- gynecologic cancer
- gynecologic surgery
- radiation therapy to treat gynecologic cancer
- menopause
- hematometra
Clinical manifestations
- menstrual abnormalities
- infertility because sperm cannot pass through the cervix to fertilize the egg
- inability to insert a tool to obtain a specimen for Pap smear, cervical cytology or endometrial biopsy
- may be asymptomatic, especially after menopause
Management
- treatment indicated only for symptoms, hematometra, or pyometra
- dilation of the cervix
