Etiology
- papillomavirus associated cancer
Epidemiology
- 50% of cases in women > 70 years of age
Pathology
- 80% squamous cell carcinoma of the vulva
- adenocarcinoma, basal cell carcinoma, sarcoma & melanoma < 20%
Clinical manifestations
- vulvar itching is the most common presenting complaint
- lesions are generally unifocal
- lesions may be ulcerated, friable or indurated
Laboratory
biopsy of persistent vulvar lesions
Management
- excision
- prophylaxis: HPV vaccine
