Laboratory
- complete blood count (CBC)
- iron studies
- serum ferritin (rule out hemochromatosis)

Management
- prevention
- NSAID use (RR = 0.74), especially aspirin (RR = 0.55), associated with reduced risk of death from chronic liver disease[1]
- treatment of chronic pain should include physical therapy because it will not exacerbate chronic liver disease[3]
