Function
- myosin heavy chain
- role in muscle contraction
Structure
Compartment
membrane; peripheral membrane protein
Alternative splicing
named isoforms=3
Expression
- expressed in heart, skeletal muscle, testis, & brain (all regions)
- slightly lower expression in ovary & kidney
- intermediate expression in lung, pancreas, spleen & liver
- found in fetal liver & brain
Pathology
- expression does not vary in normal patients compared to patients with acute monocytic leukemia
Notes
- cardiac alpha isoform is a 'fast' ATPase myosin
- beta isoform is a 'slow' ATPase
- has been named 'Slow A' MYH14[2], but it also appears as 'Slow B' MYH15
