Introduction
Characterstics:
- normal kidney size is > 11 cm, with the left kidney up to 1.5 cm longer than the right.
- small kidneys are < 10 cm pole to pole.
Pathology
Causes of enlarged kidney:
- obstruction
- infiltration
- acute glomerulonephritis
- acute tubulointerstitial nephropathy
- renal vein thrombosis
- polycystic kidney disease
