Introduction
Normal kidney size is > 11 cm, with the left kidney up to 1.5 cm longer than the right. Small kidneys are < 10 cm pole to pole.
Pathology
- small kidneys due to renal hypodysplasia result from a decrease in nephron number
- kidney size at diagnosis predicts the likelihood of developing end-stage renal disease[2]
