septal nucleus

Structure

• one of several nuclei between the fornix & the ventral surface of the corpus callosum, forming the medial wall of the frontal horn of the lateral ventricle
• it extends ventrally between the anterior commissure & the rostrum of the corpus callosum
• it is continuous caudally with the preoptic area & hypothalamus & laterally with the substantia innominata

Septal nuclei include:

• medial septal nucleus
• dorsal septal nucleus
• lateral septal nucleus
• septofimbrial nucleus
• triangular nucleus of the septum
