• on coronal section, it is located inferior to the medial septal nucleus, lateral to the 3rd ventricle, medial to the nucleus accumbens.

Efferents

• cholinergic neurons of the medial septal nucleus & diagonal band project to the hippocampus & cingulate cortex.
