homatropine (Isopto Homatropine)

Introduction

Tradename: Isopto Homatropine.

Indications

• cycloplegia & mydriasis for refraction
• treatment of acute inflammatory conditions of the uveal tract
• pre- & post-operative mydriasis

Dosage

• mydriasis & cycloplegia
  • 1-2 drops of 2% solution or 1 drop of 5% solution before procedure
  • repeat as needed at 5-10 minute intervals
• uveitis: 1-2 drops (2% or 5%) BID-TID PRN 2 & 5% (5 mL, 15 mL).

Adverse effects

• common (> 10%)
  • blurred vision
  • photophobia
• less common (1-10%)
  • irritation
  • increased intraocular pressure
• uncommon (< 1%)
  • vascular congestion
  • edema
  • drowsiness
  • exudate
  • eczematoid dermatitis
  • follicular conjunctivitis
