Function
- serine hydroxymethyltransferase catalyzes formation of 5,10-methylenetetrahydrofolate & glycine from serine & tetrahydrofolate
- the methylenetetrahydrofolate is, in turn used by:
- thymidylate synthase in the biosynthesis of dTMP from dUMP#
- 5,10 methylenetetrahydrofolate reductase to form N5-methyltetrahydrofolate*
* used by methionine synthase to regenerate methionine from homocysteine
# dihydrofolate results, with reduction by dihydrofolate reductase
