Introduction
Tradename: Yodoxin.
Indications
- treatment of acute & chronic intestinal amebiasis
- asymptomatic individuals passing parasitic cysts
- Blastocystis hominis infection
Dosage
- adults: 650 mg PO TID for 20 days
- children: 30-40 mg/kg/day divided TID for 20 days, max: 1.95 g/day (650 mg/dose)
Tabs: 210 & 650 mg.
Adverse effects
- common (> 10%)
- less common (1-10%)
- fever/chills, rash, hives, enlargement of thyroid gland, headache, rectal itching, peripheral neuropathy, agitation, retrograde amnesia, weakness, optic neuritis, optic atrophy, visual impairment
