Introduction
Ca(OCOCH3)2
Indications
- treatment of hyperphosphatemia in renal failure
- treatment of electrolyte disorders
- hypocalcemic tetany[3]
- cardiac arrest secondary to hyperkalemia[3]
Dosage
Tabs: 667 mg.
Pharmacokinetics
Adverse effects
- uncommon (< 1%)
- hypercalcemia
- headache
- hypophosphatemia
- nausea/vomiting
- constipation
- abdominal pain
- thirst
- anorexia
Drug interactions
- may antagonize effects of calcium channel blockers
- may decrease absorption of tetracyclines & quinolones
- may increase toxicity of digoxin, precipitating arrhythmias
