Indications
- cosyntropin-stimulation test
- aid in diagnosis of adrenal insufficiency
- infantile spasms[2]
Dosage
0.25 mg IV or IM over 2 minutes
Adverse effects
hypersensitivity reactions
Drug interactions
- test does not interact with prednisone, dexamethasone or beclomethasone
- cortisone & hydrocortisone may cause high baseline cortisol & paradoxical decrease in cortisol following administration of cosyntropin
- estrogens cause elevated baseline cortisol, but normal incremental response to cosyntropin should occur
- spironolactone may cause high cortisol levels to be reported when fluorometric analysis is used
