Introduction
Tradename: Sotradecol. (tetradecyl sulfate, Na+)
Indications
- treatment of small, uncomplicated varicose veins of the lower extremities
- endoscopic sclerotherapy in the management of bleeding esophageal varices
Dosage
- 0.5-2 mL of 1% (5-20 mg) for small veins IV
- 0.5-2 mL of 3% (15-60 mg) for medium or large veins (IV)
Injection: 1% (2 mL), 3% (2 mL).
Adverse effects
- not common (1-10%)
- headache, urticaria, mucosal lesions, nausea/vomiting, discoloration at the site of injection, pain, ulceration at the site of injection, sloughing & tissue necrosis following extravasation, pulmonary edema
- uncommon (< 1%)
