Indications

• treatment of allergies
  • seasonal allergic rhinitis, allergic conjunctivitis
  • atopy, urticaria

Dosage

5 mg PO QD (higher doses NOT more effective)

Tabs: 5 mg

Pharmacokinetics

• longer 1/2 life than loratadine

Adverse effects

• drowsiness (especially at higher doses)

• drug adverse effects of H1 receptor antagonists

• desloratadine in blood
• desloratadine in serum/plasma
• desloratadine in urine

Mechanism of action

• non-sedating antihistamine (H1 receptor antagonist)
• the major active metabolite of loratadine
