Epidemiology
~5-12% of AML cases
Pathology
- generally showing maturation in neutrophil lineage
- myeloid sarcomas may be present
- CD56 expression & other karyotypic abnormalities may be associated with poorer prognosis
Genetics
- chromosomal translocation involving AML1 & ETO genes
Management
- usually associated with good response to chemotherapy, complete remission & long term disease free survival when treated with high dose cytarabine in consolidation phase
