Function
- phospholipase A2 inhibitor
- interacts with fibronectin
- immunoregulatory and/or anti-inflammatory role
- antagonist of neoplastic phenotype
- binds phosphatidylcholine, phosphatidylinositol, polychlorinated biphenyls (PCB) & weakly progesterone

- homodimer; antiparallel disulfide-linked

Compartment
Expression
- lung: non-ciliated airway epithelial cells
- endometrium - higher in secretory than proliferative phase, expression is regulated by progesterone[5]
- prostate
- gene expression regulated by AP1, OCT & HNF3 transcription factors
Pathology
- expression is lost during prostate cancer progression, in many lung carcinomas[4] & endometrial carcinoma - (lower levels corresponding to higher grades)
