Function
- role in neurogenesis & neuronal migration
- necessary for correct formation of mitotic spindles & chromosome separation during mitosis
- necessary for cytokinesis & cell proliferation
- binds PLK1, PAFAH1B1
- component of a complex containing PLK1, NUDC, dynein & dynactin
- phosphorylated on Ser during M phase of cell cycle phosphorylation on Ser-274 & Ser-326 is necessary for correct formation of mitotic spindles & chromosome separation during mitosis phosphorylated by PLK & other kinases
Structure
contains 1 CS domain
Compartment
- cytoplasm, nucleus
- in a filamentous pattern adjacent to nucleus of migrating cerebellar granule cells
- colocalizes with tubulin & dynein & with microtubule organizing center
- distributed throughout cytoplasm of non-migrating cells
- small proportion is nuclear, in a punctate pattern
Expression
- ubiquitous
- expressed in fetal liver, kidney, lung, brain
- expressed in adult pancreas, kidney, skeletal muscle, liver, lung, placenta, prostate, brain, heart
- up-regulated in actively dividing hematopoietic precursor cells
- up-regulated in cultured erythroleukemia TF-1 cells by granulocyte-macrophage colony-stimulating factor
- down-regulated during maturation of erythroid precursor cells
