Function
- role in export of mRNA from nucleus to cytoplasm via leucine-rich repeats & NTF2-domain
- interacts with NXT1, NXT2, E1B-AP5, the REF proteins & with nucleoporins, Nup62, Nup153 & Nup214
- formation of NXF1/NXT1 heterodimers is required for NXF2-mediated nuclear mRNA export
Structure
- belongs to the NXF family
- contains 4 LRR repeats (leucine-rich repeats)
- contains 1 NTF2 domain
- NTF2 domain heterodimerizes with NXT1 & NXT
- contains 1 RRM domain (RNA recognition motif)
- contains 1 TAP domain
- contains 1 NTF2 domain
Compartment
- nucleus, nucleoplasm, cytoplasm
- localized in nucleoplasm & at the nuclear envelope
- shuttles between nucleus & cytoplasm
Expression
- expressed almost exclusively in testis
