Function
- adhesive molecule (putative)
- matrix bound & soluble fragments may play role in vascular system
- forms homo-oligomers & hetero-oligomers with SCUBE2 & SCUBE3
- Could be proteolytically cleaved to release a smaller active fragment
Structure
- N-glycosylated
- contains 1 CUB domain
- contains 9 EGF-like domains
Compartment
- secreted, cell membrane, peripheral membrane
- stored in platelet alpha granules, transferred to the cell surface upon activation and aggregation
Expression
- expressed in endothethelial cells, platelets
- down-regulated by inflammatory cytokines
Pathology
- smaller form, probably produced by limited proteolysis, after being released from the storage granules, is associated with thrombus & localized with the subendothelial matrices in atherosclerotic plaques
