heparan sulfate glucosamine 3-O-sulfotransferase 6; heparan sulfate D-glucosaminyl 3-O-sulfotransferase 6; 3-OST-6; heparan sulfate 3-O-sulfotransferase 6; h3-OST-6 (HS3ST6)

Function
- transfers a sulfuryl group to heparan sulfate
- unlike HS3ST1, does not convert non-anticoagulant heparan sulfate to anticoagulant heparan sulfate
3'-phosphoadenylyl sulfate + [[[A18449|heparan sulfate]]]-glucosamine = adenosine 3',5'-bisphosphate + [[[A18449|heparan sulfate]]]-glucosamine 3-sulfate
Structure
belongs to the sulfotransferase 1 family
Compartment
- Golgi membrane; single-pass type 2 membrane protein (probable)
Pathology
- substrate-specific O-sulfation generates an enzyme-modified heparan sulfate which acts as a binding receptor for Herpes simplex virus-1 (HSV-1) & permits its entry.
