Polymorphism

• HAV seropositivity protects against atopy in individuals with variants Met-Thr-Thr-Val-Pro-157 ins & Met-Thr-Thr-Thr-Val-Pro-157 ins
• reduction in HAV seroprevalence diminishes selection for atopy-protective alleles, & perhaps an increase in prevelance of atopy, i.e. asthma, allergic rhinitis & atopic dermatitis.
• allelic variation does not affect HAV-infection rates
