Function
- dual function:
- signal transduction
- activation of transcription
- binds to GAS element & activates PRL-induced transcription
- forms a homodimer or a heterodimer with a related family member
- binds NR3C1 (putative)
- interacts with NCOA1, NMI & SOCS7
- Tyr phosphorylated (putative)
Structure
- belongs to the transcription factor STAT family
- contains 1 SH2 domain
Compartment
- cytoplasm (putative), nucleus
- translocated into the nucleus in response to phosphorylation (putative)
Pathology
- defects in STAT5B are the cause of Laron-type dwarfism-2
