Indications
- evaluation of pancreatic exocrine function
- CCK plasma levels may also be useful for evaluation of:
- fatty food intolerance
- gastric ulcer
- post-gastrectomy states
- irritable bowel syndrome
Reference interval
< 80 pg/mL
Increases
- clinical disorders
- pancreatic exocrine disorders
- celiac disease
- levels up to 8500 pg/mL
- pharmaceutical agents
- somatostatin completely inhibits secretion of CCK
- levels increase following ingestion of food
- responses are more rapid in patients with duodenal ulcers & diabetes mellitus than healthy subjects
Specimen
- plasma, fasting
- collect blood in special tube containing heparin & Trasylol
- separate plasma in a refrigerated centrifuge within 30 minutes of collection
- freeze immediately after separation of plasma
