Indications
- gastric cancer
- partial gastrectomy for duodenal ulcer
- gastric ulcer refractory to medical therapy
Laboratory
- monitor serum vitamin B12 in patients who have had proximal or total gastrectomy
Diagnostic procedures
- lifelong surveillance with upper GI endoscopy for recurrence in patients with partial gastrectomy due to gastric cancer[2]
Complications
- increased risk of pulmonary tuberculosis
- increased risk of vitamin B12 deficiency
- dumping syndrome
- blind loop syndrome
