Introduction
Reactivation of a morbid process or symptoms after a period of remission.
Etiology
- neurologic deficits as a result of stroke or multiple sclerosis
- triggers include: infection, hypotension, hyponatremia, hypoglycemia, insomnia, stress, & benzodiazepine use
Pathology
- occurs most commonly with middle cerebral-artery infarcts
Clinical manifestations
- language, sensory, & motor deficits
- gaze preference, hemianopsia, & neglect not common
- similar to but less severe than initial presentation, improving with resolution of trigger(s)
