viral reactivation

Introduction

Certain viral infections, especially those due to Herpes viruses may persist after initial infection. These viruses may lay dormant for years with clinical evidence of infection only becoming apparent after a stressful event (reactivation).

Examples:

• orolabial Herpes simplex
• Herpes zoster (shingles)
