- receptor for fibronectin & fibrinogen
- the major fibronectin receptor on most cells[3]
- recognizes the sequence R-G-D in its ligands

Pathology
- in case of HIV-1 infection, interaction with extracellular viral Tat protein seems to enhance angiogenesis in lesions of Kaposi's sarcoma
